They pretty much blow me off and, in fact, say I have nothing positive to report here on my blog. Irritated, I have invited the editor to talk about the influences of dirty politics, etc. in our town. I don't expect any reply. The Times online is so pitiful and dated. Good luck with the paper. Good to hear from you.Frank Thompsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18214921895704057150noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8352780903142089915.post-56807291690213513762010-01-09T09:25:29.955-08:002010-01-09T09:25:29.955-08:00In many cases, Frank, you're right. One, at least at my current location, is that small mom-and-pop ads weren't worth trifling with. When major department stores, real estate companies and auto dealers were filling sections beyond our press capacities, that was true. But then all those advertisers had to tighten up, and our reliance on them was painfully evident.
On the editorial side, we try to produce the same amount of work with fewer people, and it's tough. And the Internet feeds a certain reader who's wooed by salacious content and quick reads.
But there's no consensus on the best way for a newspaper to make money on the Web. So we devote extra resources to this new product that may never generate significant revenue, yet it remains wholly necessary.
The demise is painful to watch, and downright terrifying to be a part of.Mike Voorheishttp://captain.blogs.starnewsonline.comnoreply@blogger.com
