You will never ...Jim, thank you for the kind words. You will never know how much they mean to me. I am humbled. I think most people have "gaps" in content for exactly the reason you mention; they simply believe brevity of expression can effectively illustrate their ideas . The time constraints and rush to completion also play their parts in this. I'm so glad you can put some of the class into application. Here's wishing you continued success with tech writing. Again, I do so thank you for brightening my day. You were a great student.Frank Thompsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18214921895704057150noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8352780903142089915.post-11227783752938220762010-02-07T16:21:17.225-08:002010-02-07T16:21:17.225-08:00Frank, after many years of thought on the matter, ...Frank, after many years of thought on the matter, I do believe that I learned more in your creative-writing class at Valley than in any of the others throughout my high-school career. I think the thing most salient that I took away was that, too often, a writer will take short cuts, to think the reader will simply "know what you mean." I realized that that I had to really work to convey exactly what I meant to say. This has become very important to me in the "publish or perish" world of academia. Even though I work in a technical field, and technical writing is a beast all its own, clarity of expression is paramount. The success I have had in this arena I trace directly back to that creative-writing class. So, thanks for making a difference. I know, as a teacher myself, you probably don't hear this as often as you deserve...Jim Fowlerhttp://www.ece.msstate.edu/~fowler/noreply@blogger.com
