I worked in substance abuse treatment for nearly two decades, saw the RX dependence epidemic start when working in a women's program years ago, been dismayed when I hear and see the judgment in the medical setting where I now work. Judgment is a barrier to treatment and treatment does work.<br />So once again I am SO proud to be living in Scioto County where we moved because of the geographical beauty. To be able to see and experience hope in historical action through the hard work and honesty of the action team and citizens here has been something I never expected to see in my lifetime. Thank you again (and again)!!!Connie Mulder and Doug RobertsAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8352780903142089915.post-82379830367713119092011-07-10T04:14:55.607-07:002011-07-10T04:14:55.607-07:00Food for thought: James Mullins, MD is quoted as s...Food for thought: James Mullins, MD is quoted as saying, "Everyone thinks they are 10mg low of something." The memory of this quote was brought back when you stated there are 100 or so chemical substances that are addictive to feel good. I think there is a huge connection between addiction and mental illness. Anxiety and depression are types of mental diagnoses and in our world of multitasking, stress, financial insecurity, etc., I hear folks complain of these disorders daily. As a nurse, I get a tight feeling in my gut when I see rx's for Ativan or Percocet, given to trusting individuals, as prescribed by their provider..... Has our life styles made us go crazy and believe that taking a pill will cure what ails us?Ann M McCoy, RNnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8352780903142089915.post-47146937152454054412011-07-09T11:16:25.977-07:002011-07-09T11:16:25.977-07:00Thank you Frank for this very informative and enli...Thank you Frank for this very informative and enlightening message. I too have been looking at the harsh reality of prescription drug abuse with new eyes. Society has cloned a form of view in recent years that has not only exasberated the problem but has contributed to a lack of productive or positive resolution of this devastating epidemic. A problem, I now believe should be termed as a disease and treated as one. I feel a transformation of cultural outlook and treatment is on the horizon as more eyes are opened to the true reality of RX Drug Abuse. America is waking up and we will Sleep No More through this monstrous disease of addiction!!Catherine Fieldshttp://www.facebook.com/WarriorsAgainstPDAnoreply@blogger.com
