Out On the Ledge
When it becomes all up to you, are you ready? Nothing exists in your field of experience to help you. For once, let's say no friends, no family, no prayers can help you. No phone calls or pets or books can remove you from your dire situation. It's just you hanging onto the ledge by a fingernail looking down into the big air. You can't use your powerful resources left behind on firm ground, and you're alone and tiring.
The only avenue of escape is to look within yourself. As a universe within yourself, all is represented by your physical aspects, your consciousness, your feelings, your perceptions, and your thoughts. At times, to perceive the significance of existence, you must use your consciousness to find your purpose. An awareness of "you" does exist within. Maybe the time has come to consider it.
To tap within yourself may allow you to see macrocosm as microcosm. To rise above the physical body is to enter the next level of consciousness. The energy and love that resides within your awareness is divine and entrusted to your understanding. Many do not realize that they are but a drop in the ocean and the "I" is body consciousness of this tiny droplet.
Caught in an inevitable tragedy, what else can you do but dissolve your ego, allowing self-knowledge of your true nature to be experienced? This enlightenment becomes the only mastery presented to a doomed individual. Whether your life flashes before your eyes or whether you begin a journey of tunnel vision, the "I" of your worldly existence enters the next phase of a natural self journey, a new connection to understanding.
When faced with problems of any nature, you look within to seek answers. Sometimes, you don't like what you see as possible solutions for your concerns. So, you examine the problems by using available resources around you. At some point, you decide on a course of action, make the decision, and act as a conscious activity of your "self." This is not to say you did the right thing. You may have blundered and caused enormous problems by choosing your solution. Or, you may have made everyone happy with your actions (Don't count on it).
Isn't part of life supposed to be embracing and celebrating all aspects of whom you are? If you have been created for a unique purpose, then losing your true sense of self seems dreadful. Pressures around you lead to self-criticism and fear. Everyone has a different concept of his "I" self, and most try to use their concepts for good. To make mistakes is to be expected.
Still hanging onto that ledge, you may gain peace by looking within yourself, if not for an answer to rescue you from peril, then for acceptance of your eventual demise.
"To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting." ~e.e. cummings, 1955
